David Stern,
NBA Commissioner
David Stern has been the commissioner of the National Basketball Association since February 1, 1984. Mr. Stern began his association with the NBA in 1966 as outside counsel, joined the NBA in 1978 as general counsel and became the league's executive vice president in 1980. In his March 2005 visit to campus, Commissioner Stern addressed students, faculty, and staff on his leadership journey and the many perils, highlights, and challenges that all leaders experience in the course of their careers
