Excellence Measures and Outcomes
Many administrative, academic, student life and services units seek help in developing and implementing systematic approaches to evaluating the effectiveness of their department or the specific programs and services they provide. The Center provides models, materials, and professional assistance in selecting measurement approaches, identifying appropriate effectiveness indicators, developing outcomes monitoring and tracking strategies, and analyzing and using results. For further information, contact us at center@odl.rutgers.edu.
Measurement Approaches
The Center is a resource for identifying
quantitative and qualitative models and methods for evaluating academic
or administrative programs and services, expectations and satisfaction
levels of stakeholders, expectations of faculty/staff and workplace climate,
and operational effectiveness and efficiency.
ODL has developed a Measuring Organizational Excellence program that provides materials for people interested in developing performance measures for their organization, and for facilitators who will be leading a group or organization in this process.
Performance Indicator Development
One critical yet challenging aspect
of assessing excellence or performance within an organization is the selection
of indicator measures that appropriately capture the mission, aspirations,
plans, and goals of the organization. The Center provides materials and
facilitates information-sharing on models and approaches used by other
institutions to address these issues. The Center can also help identify
appropriate evaluative criteria and operational measures.
Monitoring and Tracking Strategies
Through our Organizational Research
Services Program, ODL provides assistance with the analysis of information
gained from excellence and performance measurement, and with the establishment
of systems to track effectiveness over time.
Measurement Analysis and Utilization
The Center provides materials, models,
and professional guidance to help academic and administrative departments develop strategies for
information dissemination and utilization for creating focus among faculty/staff,
formulating organizational strategy, developing strategic and action plans,
and identifying and prioritizing improvement areas.
Organizational Research Services
ORS offers units an array of pre-
and post assessment consultation services that assist them in identifying
and implementing methods for collecting, analyzing, interpreting, and
integrating feedback into planning and improvement processes. Feedback
methods include interviews, focus groups, and surveys. The program is
supported by graduate student interns enrolled in the Masters Program
in the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies. ORS provides
these students the unique opportunity to combine the traditional graduate
school experience with the application of organizational assessment beyond
the classroom setting.
